The small coastal village of Gerroa is a haven for those holidaymakers who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of central Australia, but still want to enjoy an active holiday atmosphere.
Just outside of its neighbour Kiama, Gerroa and its sleepy and secluded surroundings allow you to relax and take a real break from life, whilst still being only a few short minutes from the sea and all of its leisure activities. Don’t be fooled by its silent overtone, there is a heck of a lot to do in Gerroa and its surrounding areas and can entertain tourists and families of all ages.
At the base of it are some of Australia’s finest stretches of beach, spectacular landscape views and good weather when good weather is needed, but on top of this is the unique animals and wildlife, traditional holiday activities and inspiring historic buildings and farms. South of Gerroa is the famous Seven Mile Beach, which is protected by its own national park. Sunbathing, sandcastle building, beach games and water sports are all encouraged; that is once you get over how pure the sand is and how clear the water runs. This magnificent stretch of beach backs in to and amazing contrast of forestry, where you can take guided walks to be at one with nature.
Nature is a big part of the coast and Gerroa’s wildlife refuge is very popular. You can see kangaroos, emus, wombats and a whole host of other animals and critters. This is a great place to have fun and educate your children. There is also a less themed nature reserve which is popular among seasoned bird watchers, just beyond Minnamurra Falls.
If you are looking for a little more action beyond the beach and the wildlife then you should definitely check out the year round recreation park, where you can enjoy dry slope skiing, bobsled racing, swimming pools with waterslides, go kart racing and mini golf. For the adults there is also a popular full sized golf course built straight out of the natural sloping landscape. This is not Manhattan, but the nightlife is still very enjoyable.
There are several pubs in the area that welcome visitors, as well as several cafes and places to eat out. If you are looking for a good quiet family holiday with plenty of things to do, (that won’t break your bank balance), then a trip to Gerroa on the coast is definitely a viable option.
