South Coast Holidays, a South Coast tourism website, has been selected as one of the top performing small and medium businesses in 2009 by the 2009 Smart50 awards sponsored by Westpac. The award recognises South Coast Holidays’ business acumen and dedication to showcasing the best South Coast holiday accommodation. The awards were presented by Victorian Small Business Minister Joe Helper and SmartCompany publisher Amanda Gome in Melbourne on 17 September 2009. The top 50 list recognises Australia’s fastest-growing small and medium companies in 2008-09 and included awards for top franchise, top exporter, top innovator and top website.

The top 50 list singled out businesses like South Coast Holidays who are not only keeping their head above water in a sink or swim financial crisis but are sailing through by adapting their business strategy to weather the financial crisis and increasing their online revenue.

In 2008-09, South Coast Holidays had a turnover over $1 million and 41.5% growth in profits with only 5 employees, making their venture the most popular holiday booking website in the South Coast area and the only tourism company to be featured in the top 50.

It was even more remarkable; South Coast Holidays increased their profits, improved their market share and achieved exceptional growth in the midst of a financial crisis where the tourism industry is often hit the hardest.

The idea for South Coast Holidays was born when Perrie Croshaw sold her B&B business and was inundated with enquiries from previous customers for recommendations for holiday accommodation in the South Coast region.

For Perrie Croshaw, a former newspaper guru and local who knows all the secret hotspots and hidden treasures around the South Coast area, it was a natural transition from running a B&B to developing a website that features the best holiday accommodation around the highly sought after South Coast holiday spot.
