The South Coast is always a popular holiday destination for those coming from the main cities of Australia or further a field, looking to experience the beautiful beaches, weather and unique wildlife the region has to offer. No other place in the world boasts such a unique landscape, and one of the more popular locations on the coast is Kiama. Kiama tourism has always been strong, particularly during the summer months when people come to experience seaside atmosphere and enjoy the holidays.
There are a million and one reasons why somebody might come to Kiama. At the root of it is simply that it's a beautiful, peaceful and fun place to visit; but there are lots of sights and attractions that make it a particularly strong tourist destination.
Fishing - Kiama tourism has a strong foundation with the fishing crowd. The spectacular harbour and lush waters make it a perfect place for expert fishermen and rookies looking to catch their first whopper. You can easily hire a boat from the many rentals on offer.
Restaurants & Food - So you've been fishing, but you should also plan to eat out because the fish on menu is about as fresh as the fish you just caught. Kiama’s restaurants are always popular with tourists because of their high quality fresh sea food, and great window views. There’s nothing better than eating great food out in the sunshine and sea air.
Shopping - Kiama tourism is also fuelled by shoppers who come to browse the market places. As well as the local goods, arts and crafts, the fresh food market is extremely popular. You don't have to be a fisherman to catch the best fish! You can purchase it from the market.
Natural Attractions - One of the most popular attractions in Kiama is the famous blowhole, which spurts out pressurized water through the rocks of the harbour like an erupting volcano. Beyond this phenomenon are the many trails, mountain/cliff views and forest walks that showcase the unique and contrasting landscape of the region.
Wildlife - As well as the many parks and reserves on the coast, you can also experience wildlife out in the open. For years tourists of Kiama have come to see the cheeky pelicans that populate the town. They have become such a beloved icon that a statue was erected in their name.
Accommodation - Tourism is never booming without good accommodation and Kiama has a whole host of different places to stay. You can book a 5 star hotel, or get back to basics and rent an authentic seaside cabin; it all depends on what you want from your holiday.
Kiama has a lot of things going for it, and is definitely a place you should check out if planning a short holiday or vacation to the coast.
