One of the main parts of any enjoyable holiday is the beach. Families have been flocking to the seaside for years and it doesn’t look like that is ever going to change. The most popular destinations for Australian families looking for sands and sea are on the south coast of New South Wales. The waters don’t get any clearer and the sands don’t get any more golden than this. One of these more popular beaches is located at Gerringong about 8 minutes by car south of Kiama.
Gerringong beach (or Werri Beach as its properly known) is naturally carved in to the landscape in such a way that it winds around the town and village in a horseshoe shape, thus there is a large amount of shallow water that is perfect for swimmers. The watery fun doesn’t end there though, as there are loads of activities on offer. One of the more popular is of course surfing and you can rent boards and guided lessons from some of the local shops and surf schools. You can also hire a boat to go further out to sea, catch the wind while windsurfing or just have a good splish splash!
The beach itself is spectacular. If there ever was a beach designed for sunbathing it was Gerringong beach. The sand is some of the purest and whitest in the world and the perfect consistency for some good old fashioned sand castle building. There’s no limit to the amount of fun activities you can do on the beach with a little perseverance. Common games include volleyball, soccer, tag, Frisbee, who can make the biggest hole and get buried in it! Let your imagination run wild - you’re on holiday.
With the seaside atmosphere in the air you can also enjoy the nearby scenic walks, fresh seafood restaurants and the many boutiques and shops.
It can’t be clearly defined what brings people to the seaside, but Gerringong beach is definitely the one beach you should visit during your trip to the south coast.
