BEAUTIFUL BUNDEENA - SO NEAR AND YET SO FAR
So close to Sydney's Central Business District and yet a million miles away from stress, noise and traffic - the south coast of New South Wales has some of the most beautiful beaches, rolling countryside and natural landscapes in the world.
The south coast starts here in the Royal National Park's villages of Bundeena and Mainbar, only 60 minutes away from the centre of Sydney. At Bundeena, you can kick back and drink in the fresh air while watching the many native birds in the grey-green gum trees, swim in the clear blue-green Pacific Ocean and Hacking River, visit the occasional markets or take an art trail to 20 different artists studios. Or bring your bike or walking shoes for a more active break. Bundeena is the ideal place to stay if you're planning to do the 26 kilometre Walk along the Royal National Park Coast.
tread lightly, take only photographs and leave only footprints
The flora and fauna (flowers, trees and animals) that you find along the 17km Bundeena Maianbar Heritage Walk are delightful and ones you may never have seen ever before as they are Indigenous or native to this part of the world. Along this Heritage walk you will see remnants of the old volcano, bush tucker, stones, carvings, paintings and middens (piles of seashells left over after feasts) left by the almost 900 Dharawal Aboriginal People who originally inhabited this area. Remember to tread lightly on this planet, taking only photogra phs and leaving only footprints.
There are three cafes in the village and a good restaurant at the RSL.
